At bisgaard, we design children's shoes, created to accompany your child from their first steps and all the way through childhood. Each shoe is lovingly handcrafted with responsibly sourced high-quality materials, ensuring support and comfort while encouraging play and movement.

The journey of bisgaard began with a profound passion for crafting children's shoes that mirror the joy and wonder of childhood. Our journey began in 2005 in Aarhus, Denmark’s second largest city, where the seeds of bisgaard were planted by our founders Marianne and Henrik Bisgaard. It’s a tale of passion, craftsmanship, and the simple joy of creating shoes for our little ones.

based on a mother’s experience

Most families with young children know bisgaard. Fewer, however, know the designer behind the name – Marianne Bisgaard. Her journey began long before bisgaard was founded, when she was raising young children herself while running the children’s shoe store Hønsefødder in Aarhus. During this time, she developed a deep understanding of how essential proper fit, comfort and freedom of movement are for healthy children’s feet.

Through her own children and many years of hands-on experience, the idea of designing children’s shoes slowly took shape. In 2005, Marianne and her husband Henrik took the step together and founded bisgaard. With Henrik’s business insight and Marianne’s creative eye, they built a shared foundation where care for children’s well-being, natural movement and quality craftsmanship go hand in hand.

Today, Marianne continues to design the shoes with a focus on Nordic nuances, clean lines and thoughtful details, while together they safeguard the values on which bisgaard is built. With the belief that healthy feet create balance for both body and mind, we work carefully from the first idea to the finished shoe – with respect for the child, the craft and the materials.

Since our journey began in Denmark in 2005, our shoes are now loved by children and parents in more than 20 countries around the world.

One shoe = 50 hands

At bisgaard, our shoes are carefully handcrafted by skilled artisans who draw upon their expertise and generations of tradition in shoemaking. Each shoe passes through the hands of 50 artisans before it reaches its final form, ensuring meticulous attention to detail and the highest standards of craftsmanship. From the initial design to the final stitching, every step of the process is infused with care and precision, resulting in shoes that are not only stylish but also made to last.

Nature's best materials

When we design and create new collections, using nature's best materials is very important to us. Materials such as leather, wool, organic cotton and natural rubber have natural durability and long life and most often become even more beautiful over time.

Specially designed fit

Our dedication to quality begins with the development of our own lasts - the model and foundation of every shoe. In this way, we have full control over the fit and comfort of our shoes. From the design to the final product, every step of the process is carried out with care and precision.
