Shoe Care Guide: How to Care for bisgaard Shoes
At bisgaard, we use 100% natural leather, wool, and natural rubber to create breathable, comfortable, and durable footwear for growing feet. Proper care ensures your shoes stay soft, water-resistant, and last through every adventure.
1. Leather Shoe Care (Smooth & Vegetable-Tanned Leather)
Natural leather requires regular moisture to prevent drying and cracking.
-
Step 1: Clean
Wipe away dirt and dry mud using a soft, damp cloth or a soft-bristled brush.
-
Step 2: Condition
Apply a small amount of natural leather balm or beeswax cream using a clean cloth. Rub in gentle circular motions to restore suppleness and shine.
-
Step 3: Protect
Allow the balm to absorb naturally for 15–20 minutes, then buff lightly with a dry cloth. Use an eco-friendly water-repellent spray for extra rain protection.
2. Suede & Nubuck Care
Suede and nubuck have a delicate brushed texture that needs gentle cleaning.
-
Step 1: Brush
Use a specialized suede brush to gently remove dry dirt and restore the natural nap (nap direction).
-
Step 2: Spot Clean
For stubborn stains or marks, use a suede eraser. Never use heavy water or liquid polished wax on suede.
-
Step 3: Waterproof
Spray regularly with a suede protector spray before wearing in wet weather.
3. Natural Rubber Rainboot Care
Our rainboots are made from 100% natural rubber, which requires specific care to prevent drying out.
-
Clean: Wash off mud with clean water and a mild sponge after use.
-
Dry: Always dry at room temperature in a shaded, well-ventilated area.
-
Maintain: Natural rubber can dry out over time. Apply a dedicated rubber care spray or natural oil monthly to maintain flexibility and shine.
-
⚠️ Important: NEVER place boots near direct heat sources (such as radiators, heaters, or direct sunlight), as heat causes natural rubber to dry out and crack.
4. Wool & Warm Lined Boots Care
Keep winter boots fresh and dry throughout the cold season.
-
Drying Inside Out: Remove insoles after wet days and let them air dry completely at room temperature.
-
Odor Prevention: Air out wool-lined boots regularly. Avoid machine washing leather boots with wool lining.
💡 General Tips for Long-Lasting Shoes
-
Alternate Pairs: Allow shoes to rest and air out for 24 hours between wears to release trapped moisture.
-
Use Shoe Trees or Paper: Insert paper or shoe trees when drying to help boots retain their natural shape.
-
Avoid Machine Washing: Leather and natural rubber should never be machine washed or tumble dried.
